Stein Academy Medical Assistant Program

The Medical Assistant course at Stein Academy consists of 600 hours of classroom and laboratory training, split into nine learning modules. Each module builds on the skills developed previously, with all coursework leading to an externship (Module IX). The externship requires 160 hours of real-world practice at a healthcare facility, which must be completed to graduate.

Classes are structured to accommodate students with different schedules, offering:

• Daytime Classes: Monday to Friday, 9 AM – 2 PM
• Evening Classes: Monday to Friday, 5 PM – 10 PM

Externship hours vary accordingly:

• Day Externship: Monday to Friday, 7 AM – 3 PM
• Evening Externship: Monday to Friday, 3 PM – 11 PM

• Successfully pass a pre-admission test, or provide proof of high school completion (diploma, GED, or official transcript). Minimum test scores required if no high school diploma.
• Valid Social Security Number or U.S. Immigration Number, plus photo ID.
• Negative tuberculosis (TB) test within six months or negative chest X-ray within two years if previously positive.
• Hepatitis B vaccination (or signed waiver form).
• Current CPR and First Aid certification (online certifications are not accepted).
• Recent physical examination report confirming good health.
• Criminal background check (within three months before enrollment).
• Negative drug screening test (within six months before enrollment).
• Proof of health insurance (or signed waiver).
• Must be at least 18 years old by the end of the program.
• Access to a computer and internet (computer literacy required).

The total tuition for the Medical Assistant program at Stein Academy is $11,100, including a lab fee of $100. Additional expenses include:

• Non-refundable registration fee: $100
• Books: Approximately $360
• Uniforms: $35 each, three sets available for $100 total
• Blood pressure kit: $45
• Pre-admission test fee (if applicable): $35

Tuition payments can be made in full or through an installment plan. An additional $20 fee applies to installment payments, with the first payment of $2,240 due on or before the first day of class, followed by four subsequent payments of $2,220 every three weeks.

It is important to note that Stein Academy does not participate in federal financial aid programs. Students must seek financial support independently or through third-party sponsorships.

While Maryland does not mandate certification for employment as a medical assistant, Stein Academy strongly encourages graduates to pursue national certification, either through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA). Students should verify specific eligibility requirements directly with the certification agencies or the school before enrolling.
